African Vegan on a Budget is a plant-based food brand founded in 2016 by Zimbabwean chef Nicola Kagoro, known as Chef Cola, operating between Harare and Cape Town to showcase affordable African plant-based cuisine through recipes, cooking classes, and catering. Kagoro trained at the International Hotel School in Cape Town and was head chef at the vegan restaurant Plant before launching the brand, and later served as executive chef for the Akashinga all-female anti-poaching rangers with the International Anti-Poaching Foundation. She self-published the cookbook "African Vegan On A Budget: 40+ Comfort Plant Based Meals with Chef Cola" (2022), hosts the TV cooking show "So Now I'm Vegan," and has been profiled by Forbes Africa and Saveur.
